JESSICA J. LEE

Jessica is a British-Canadian-Taiwanese author and environmental historian, and winner of the 2019 RBC Taylor Prize Emerging Writer Award. She is the author of two books: Turning: A Swimming Memoir (Virago, 2017) and Two Trees Make a Forest: On Memory, Migration and Taiwan (Virago, 2019). She is also the founding editor of The Willowherb Review: a literary journal that aims to provide a digital platform to celebrate and bolster nature writing by emerging and established writers of colour. During lockdown, from her apartment in central Berlin, she has been listening: to birds, neighbours, her husband and dog. Here, for PLACE 2020, she considers the shrinking of her world to a single square mile and the riches to be found within.
