PAUL SCRATON
Paul Scraton is a writer and editor from the north of England who has lived in Berlin since 2002. He is the editor in chief of Elsewhere: A Journal of Place, an online journal devoted to writing and visual arts with a strong sense of place, and he is the author of a number of books including Ghosts on the Shore: Travels along Germany's Baltic coast and the Berlin novel Built on Sand (both published by Influx Press). His next book is In the Pines, a novella of the forest and a collaboration with the photographer Eymelt Sehmer, to be published by Influx in autumn 2021. His submission for PLACE 2021 is an audio essay titled 'Arrival / Departure', a work of creative nonfiction about the railway station at Berlin's former Schönefeld Airport. As with much of Paul's work, it is concerned with themes of memory and place, and the role they have on identity, both personal and collective.
