ANJUM MALIK

Anjum Malik is a celebrated poet, scriptwriter and lecturer at the Writing School, Manchester Metropolitan University and a member of the Centre for Place Writing. British, Pakistani, multilingual, with an international upbringing, Anjum draws upon her background to work with under-represented groups, encouraging participation, involvement and development of the arts. Using creative writing and performance, Anjum’s work focuses on the sharing of stories – from people of all backgrounds and ages - not normally seen in the mainstream. Anjum specialises in fact to fiction. Her work is based on true stories and real people. She has written several much-acclaimed original plays for BBC, ITV and theatre in UK. She is a regular creative writing tutor for leading literary organisations in the UK and overseas. Her collaborative poetry film ‘Hidden Heroes’ celebrates new arrivals to Manchester. She is currently making a new poetry film with Syrian refugees who have settled in Blackpool, which has been made during the lockdown, which we hope to share on PLACE 2020 later in the year when it is completed.
